Transport in Russia

The main modes of transport in Russia are by rail , water , airl , road , and pipeline. They collectively form the transport network of Russia. Pipelines are the cheapest way to transport goods, and railroads are the cheapest way to transport passengers.

The transport network’s level of development differs from region to region. The availability of transportation routes in terms of both length and density in the best developed regions can be more than 10 times greater than in the least developed regions. The Central Chernozem, Central, Northwestern, North Caucasian, and the Volgo-Vyatsky economic regions have the best developed transport infrastructure, while the Far Eastern, East Siberian, West Siberian, and Northern economic regions have the least developed systems. The Russian transport network has three main axes.
