Pan-European Biological and Landscape Diversity Strategy

Signed in 1995 in Sofia, Bulgaria this agreement proposes a series of coordinated measures aimed at ensuring the conservation of ecosystems, habitats and species (including genetic diversity), and landscapes of European importance.

One of the most important objectives is the development of the Pan-European Ecological Network, which consists of the following core areas: stepping-stones for migratory species, corridors linking habitats, and providing sufficient opportunities for the dispersal and migration of species.
